Artist Statement

My artistic journey has involved a search for the right moment and atmosphere from which I can create images that best communicate the world I have seen and experienced. I believe that my artistic expression and creative process are the result of a lifetime of learning experiences, with all that makes up my personal history being inseparable from the artwork produced. As such, I also consider this experience to be a healing process which both explains much of what is contained in my past and has helped me to build a more harmonious and rolex replica sale positive approach to challenges of the present along with expectations for the future. Furthermore, it is my position that a good piece of artwork brings meaning to others outside of myself and that through continued refinement of my talent and ability I can better share those ideals for which I have strong beliefs. Beyond making a beautiful object with aesthetic principles, an important part of my work is to bring attention to and encourage reflection upon issues of importance to contemporary society. As a painter, I have attempted to search for a way to walk between the line of realism and expressionism, meaningful narrative and visual power, as well as between a modernist rolex replica approach to formalism and traditional master techniques. Nonetheless, it is through figurative painting that I have found the ability to speak most clearly and communicate with the meaning most relevant to my artistic journey. I feel that figurative painting today is successful in its use of figures as a vehicle to convey that it still has relevance in reflecting diverse cultures and critical, philosophical thinking, while at the same time enjoying the sublime satisfaction of the material's texture and surface. I believe that figurative painting replica watches uk will remain a genuine window to understanding each artist's life spirit and mission. Through my work, I hope to continue the figurative and representational tradition while expressing deep concerns for matters significant to myself and others in modern society. The artwork selected for this exhibit reflects many years of my artistic career, giving a glimpse into my journey and struggle - with art, culture, society rolex replica sale and myself - still a work in progress, with many miles and roads ahead.

Since 1997, Liu has been working on a project depicting the homeless people in America's inner cities. The subjects are homeless individuals who struggle with mental and physical disabilities, and substance abuse. In 2006, he started developing another project, titled Six Degree Link with subtitle being the Student Project. This project was inspired by the students he taught and mentored through the years. With these two projects, Liu intended to capture the diversity and vitality of poor neighborhoods to discourse meaningful contemporary art issues. His artworks from these two series have won accolades from over 50 newspapers and magazines, including New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Hartford Currant and Des Moines Register. Recently Liu edited a book, titled 'Selected Contemporary American Figurative Painters' and published by Tianjin Art Publishing House, Tianjin, China. 'Chinese 4'

In recent time, Qimin Liu has undertaken the task of cultural and artistic exchange between his native nation of China and the United States. One of the facets of this endeavor has been an on going residency program which was established in 2013. this program allows selected talented Chinese artists visit and live in the United States for a month. During their visit, Chinese residents are taken to various cultural and artistic centers throughout New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Connecticut. Such trips include visiting the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim in New York, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in Boston, Yale and Princeton Universities and many more. The program also includes opportunities for the artists to have discussions, give live demonstrations at local Universities and a gallery exhibition and opening to showcase the artists' works. Resident artists are also afforded the unique and prestigious opportunity to visit
the studios of some of today's top contemporary artists such as Vincent Desiderio, Steven Assael, and William Bailey, all close friends with Qimin Liu. To date, the program has selected and had close to 45 artists of various styles and artistic disciplines participate in this program with rave reviews and many more are to come.

In addition to this program, Qimin Liu is looking to also bring Contemporary master artists to visit as well as showcase work and give demonstrations and discussions in China with his 'Contemporary Master Painter' program. The initial trip is scheduled for the summer of 2015 and will include artists such as Mel Leipzig, Vincent Desiderio, Sussana Coffey, Barkley Hendricks, and Steven Assael with more to be added. This visit will pave the way for future contemporary American artists to come visit and share artistic culture with artists and academics in China in much the same way that the Chinese residency program has done to date. Moving forward, Qimin Liu seeks to continue these artistic and cultural exchanges between China and America as well as take on further opportunities to showcase masterful international artists as well as continue to develop and refine his own artistic style and abilities.
